Will the real Susana please stand up? Gov. Martinez pushes respect, cautions to watch our tone when talking to voters, and not be so harsh. (http://www.abqjournal.com/363366/news/gov-martine-zpushes-respect.html). Really? Has Jay gotten the memo? Here are examples of the tone Gov. Martinez and her PACs have set for recent campaigns:
“This hasn’t changed me because there’s no reason for it to change me,” Martinez said during the interview at her home in Las Cruces. Many say they see a different person, however. In interviews, some described a governor who is disrespectful, one who is constantly attacking legislative opponents with mailers, radio spots, TV ads and automated phone calls funded by her super PAC. http://www.currentargus.com/ci_22319830/nm-gov-susana-martinezs-combativeness-could-harm-legacy:
Harden says he expects Jay McCleskey, Martinez’s political strategist, to finish the primary season with a negative campaign and “character assassination” against Woods. “It is typical of what they do. They just run negative campaigns,” Harden said. http://elpasotimes.typepad.com/newmexico/2012/05/sen-harden-helping-pat-woods-.html
Pirtle knocked off Jennings in a tight, expensive and extraordinarily bitter campaign that saw Republican Gov. Susana Martinez and political action committees associated with her target Jennings with negative ads and mailers …: http://newmexico.watchdog.org/16479/after-34-years-tim-jennings-outsted-by-upstart-cliff-pirtle/
McCleskey declined to provide comment for this column, but he told the National Journal:
“As is the job of any political consultant, my role is not to be loved, but rather to be effective at winning campaigns and garnering support for the policies pursued by those who have been elected.” http://latinotimes.com/politics/915190-gov-susana-martinez-subject-of-criticism.html
A new tax-exempt “social welfare” group that has aired radio ads and mailed fliers in support of Gov. Susana Martinez’s actions on public education, taxes and alleged Medicaid fraud has ties to the Republican governor and the GOP.
Most recently, the group, New Mexico Competes, blasted Albuquerque Public Schools Superintendent Winston Brooks in a flier for opposing the administration’s new system to evaluate teachers. http://www.abqjournal.com/291101/news/group-attacking-brooks-has-ties-to-governor-gop.html
