UNM regent nominee Chandler drawing opposition

SANTA FE – One of Gov. Susana Martinez’s appointees to the University of New Mexico Board of Regents received a ringing endorsement Wednesday, while another was left in limbo after tough questions during a Senate committee hearing.

Senators voted 38-0 to reconfirm Jamie Koch as a UNM regent. Koch, a Democrat, was reappointed by Martinez in December 2014.

However, the nomination of Matt Chandler, a former Clovis-based prosecutor and the 2010 Republican attorney general candidate, faced uncertainty Wednesday after the full Senate held off on a confirmation vote.
