State land office could buy BLM land thanks to proposal

CARLSBAD >> Some parcels of land in Southeastern New Mexico may eventually change ownership thanks to an initiative by the New Mexico State Land Office and a state legislator from the north.

Sen. Michael Sanchez, D-Belen, has introduced a proposal, Senate Bill 1, to the New Mexico Legislature that allocates $250,000 to the state land office in fiscal years 2014 and 2015 in order to assess the feasibility of purchasing lands currently held by the Bureau of Land Management.
