State budget office outlines plan to reconcile finances, balance books

Budget experts estimate $101 million in state money isn’t accounted for, although the state of New Mexico isn’t sure exactly how much cash it has on hand.
The figure, which reflects unreconciled expenditures between 2006 and 2013, takes on a new significance this year as lawmakers grapple with declining revenue estimates tied to the falling price of oil while they try to craft a budget.
