Senate honors former Aggies coach, hall-of-famer Henson

    It took legendary basketball coach Lou Henson to show how bipartisan the New Mexico Legislature can be.

    State senators honored Henson, 83, on their floor Wednesday for his long service to New Mexico and his recent selection to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in Kansas City. He will be inducted in November.

    Henson, dressed in a trademark maroon blazer, the color of his New Mexico State University Aggies, was in town to coach the House of Representatives team in its annual charity game against the Senate. Nonetheless, senators of both major political parties said Henson, as much as anyone, is the state’s shining symbol of success.
