Senate committee tackles stalled budget bill

The New Mexico Senate is preparing to stamp its fingerprint on the budget it hopes to salvage after the $6.2 billion spending package has been stalled for a week in the House.
A Senate budget proposal, with variations from its House counterpart, is being drafted, and Senate Finance Committee Chairman John Arthur Smith, D-Deming, said he expects the bill to come before the panel early next week.
