The state’s negotiations to prevent an Arizona mental health and substance abuse treatment provider from leaving New Mexico have fallen flat, casting into uncertainty the services for nearly 3,800 clients in seven counties.

La Frontera New Mexico, brought in with four other Arizona providers during the stormy shake-up of New Mexico’s behavioral health system in 2013, when 15 contract agencies were removed over suspicions of Medicaid billing fraud, still plans to pull out of the state, the Human Services Department confirmed Friday. The organization had first announced its plans to leave in February.
