    I am an immigrant. Many of us here in New Mexico are either immigrants or descendants of immigrants. We are grateful that our Native American sisters and brothers, in spite of the fact that their land was taken away from them, now join us in this struggle for justice and equality.

    I am a new New Mexican. One of the reasons why I came here is because New Mexico has had a reputation for being a progressive and inclusive state. Our state was the first one in the nation to issue driver’s licenses to unauthorized immigrants. It served as a model for the rest of the country.
