Public Financing Fix Held Up in Committee
Candidates who use public campaign funds would no longer be allowed to use those funds to pay themselves or their relatives to campaign while unopposed candidates would not be eligible for public funds under a bill discussed this morning by the Senate Rules Committee.
Senate Bill 58, sponsored by Sen. Peter Wirth, D-Santa Fe, also would “fix” a section of the current law that was struck down by a 2011 court decision.
