Lawmaker proposes raising age for senior drivers who must get annual license renewals

One silver-haired, silver-tongued New Mexico legislator wonders if the state is practicing ageism by requiring drivers 75 and older to renew their licenses in person every year.
Sen. John Arthur Smith introduced a bill Tuesday to raise the age threshold for annual license renewals to 79.
Smith, D-Deming, said residents in his Southern New Mexico district lobbied him for a higher age limit, and his first instinct is that they have a point.
