Gov.’s highway repair plan hits a roadblock

SANTA FE – A plan to earmark $300 million over the next five years for New Mexico highway repair and construction projects hit turbulence Thursday, with several members of a House panel voicing concerns about its potential impact.
Gov. Susana Martinez is pushing the plan as a way to speed up work on unsafe roads while also boosting the state’s economic prospects.
But some lawmakers said Thursday the proposal could mean less money for lawmakers to spend on other infrastructure projects and fewer dollars flowing into a state permanent fund.
