The New Mexico Senate has passed an energy conservation bond bill that provides $20 million in tax credits for energy-efficient segments of major construction projects.

Senate Bill 101, sponsored by Sen. Peter Wirth, D-Santa Fe, passed on a 36-0 vote Feb. 20. Wirth is chair of the House Energy and Natural Resources Committee. The bill was supported by the New Mexico Green Chamber of Commerce and the Associated General Contractors – New Mexico Building Branch.

“The bill is another piece of legislation that will help put New Mexicans back to work,” a Green Chamber and AGC-NM joint statement said. “Ultimately this means more funding available for projects, more energy-efficient construction and more jobs for New Mexicans.”

This bill now heads to the New Mexico House of Representatives.
