Democrats in the state Senate say they are optimistic about getting their proposed increase in New Mexico’s minimum wage on the fall ballot.

The sponsors were joined at news conference Tuesday by a restaurant owner who pays above minimum wage and a university student who makes minimum wage. Both said increasing the current state minimum wage of $7.50 an hour would help the economy.
