Democratic NM senator to introduce bill on paid family medical leave

On Monday, Democratic state Sen. Jacob Candelaria will introduce a bill that would ensure paid medical leave for New Mexicans.
Candelaria says the New Mexico Family Leave Act would make sure employees receive 60 percent of their salary when they take time off because they are sick, when a family member is sick or when a child is born.
“The state, employees, and businesses all have skin in the game to make paid family leave a reality,” Candelaria said. “Under the bill, employees and businesses would make a 2/10ths of 1 percent contribution to a new state insurance pool to fund the Act, and the state will provide corresponding reasonable tax incentives for businesses.”
