SANTA FE – An attempt by Senate Republicans to dislodge a House-approved bill addressing so-called social promotion was thwarted Monday night by the chamber’s Democratic majority.
Sen. William Sharer, R-Farmington, made the motion to blast the measure out of the Senate Public Affairs Committee and place it on the Senate’s agenda for tomorrow.
However, the motion failed on a 17-24 vote, with all Senate Democrats voting in opposition and all Senate Republicans voting in favor. Senators adjourned for the evening just minutes after the vote.
