FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SENATOR BILL SOULES WILL HOST AN EDUCATION TOWN HALL: THE PUBLIC IS INVITED
Senator Bill Soules, together with the National Education Association – New Mexico, NEA-Las Cruces and the Classified School Employees Council (CSEC), invite the public to discuss current issues impacting public school student success at an Education Town Hall. It will be held at 4:30 p.m. at Centennial High School Performing Arts Building, 1950 Sonoma Ranch Road, on Wednesday, November 11, 2015.
“As a lifelong educator who cares deeply about our education system, I understand the impact a teacher can have on the life of a student,” said Sen. Soules (D-37-Doña Ana). “Our teachers must be allowed to develop the minds of students instead of teaching to a test.”
The State Senate is committed to improving academics in public schools to make New Mexico economically competitive. It is important that legislators hear ideas from the community to ensure new policies will positively impact student achievement. This is the second in a series of town halls hosted by Democratic Senators across New Mexico.
“This Education Town Hall is a wonderful opportunity for parents, teachers and other educators and the community at large to discuss the critical issues impacting student success in our local public schools,” says NEA-New Mexico Vice President, and Las Cruces teacher Mary Parr-Sanchez. “New Mexico supports our local schools, yet teachers are under near constant attack from some quarters.”
November 11 Education Town Hall will focus on three broad areas: the over testing of our students, the current teacher evaluation system and the need to sufficiently fund our public schools. Education Town Hall participants are welcome to submit their own questions. Refreshments will be available.
